Meet the Founders

Santa Barbara Spike was founded in 2024 by Elisia Stawiecki and her husband, Johnny, after their love for the game ignited on the sandy shores of Carpinteria Beach in the summer of 2022. What began as a fun family activity quickly turned into a passion for Elisia, who sought out local Spikeball groups, only to find none in the area. Determined to create a community of her own, she printed a handful of flyers at the local library and posted them throughout downtown Santa Barbara. What started small has blossomed into a thriving weekly pickup group, drawing players from all over the area. Elisia’s dedication to the sport has also led her to partner with Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation, where she now teaches Spikeball clinics for adults and runs Spikeball summer camps for kids, helping to spread the joy of the game to the entire community.

What is Spikeball?

Roundnet (most commonly referred to as “Spikeball”) is a fast-paced, action-packed sport that combines elements of volleyball and four square, played with a small round net placed at ankle height. Teams of two take turns hitting a palm-sized ball onto the net, aiming to make it difficult for the opposing team to return. The game is highly dynamic, with players moving 360 degrees around the net, diving, spiking, and strategizing to outmaneuver their opponents. With its easy-to-learn rules and emphasis on agility, teamwork, and fun, Spikeball has quickly grown in popularity, attracting players of all ages and skill levels.
